If you suspect that you’ve had anxiety or panic attacks recently, you’ll need knowledge about the symptoms so that you can take the necessary steps to master your condition. There are basically two ways you can follow:

· learn about anxiety self help
· seek professional help

Furthermore, if you are feeling that your life is filled with particularly much stress, you should learn more about anxiety attacks symptoms so that you can turn the problems around before it gets extremely serious.

Breathing Problems

A common symptom of anxiety is tightness in the chest. If you have problems with breathing or find it difficult to speak properly, you might suffer from anxiety attacks. During attacks like these, try to find a place where you can sit or lie down, if possible nearby a window or an open door. You will then be able to get some fresh air and the increased oxygen will help your chest muscles to stop contracting and decrease your body temperature.

Digestive Issues

Problems with digestion are also common symptoms of anxiety attacks. Problems with swallowing food, loss of appetite or an unsettled stomach are all symptoms of stress. If you experience these symptoms, eating un-processed or foods in their natural state would be a significant part of your Anxiety self help efforts by helping you to stop the anxiety symptoms.

Eat organic fruits and vegetables instead of canned varieties. Foods like these are free of pesticides; chemicals that many people react negatively to.

Discomfort and Pain in Arms and Legs

If you experience anxiety frequently or think that you are in the middle of an anxiety attack, you may have a tingling feeling in your hands or feet. If it continues, you may experience pain in your extremities but you can reduce it by regularly muscle stretching and exercising. The prickling is caused by nerve damage, so when you exercise, you will increase your body’s circulation. This way your muscles are strengthened.

Exercise will also help your breathing, thus decreasing the likelihood of having shortness of breath when you are under extreme stress. Try jogging or running for minimum 30 minutes per day, or using free weights in order to strengthen the muscles in your arms and legs.

Sleeping Problems

Another anxiety symptom can be lack of sleep or it can even be the opposite; too much sleep. Let’s say you go to sleep at a decent hour but wake up many times during the night or you go to sleep early and sleep for 10 hours or more, this could be a symptom of severe anxiety.

Your physician may be able to prescribe medication that will help you to sleep through the night. You may also try natural remedies such as valerian root or 5-HTP at your local health food store. These natural remedies can play a vital role in your Anxiety self help regimen by raising your serotonin levels, thus giving you the ability to deal with stress in a more healthy fashion throughout the day.

Although many people turn to anti-anxiety drugs to get relief from panic attacks, such medication is a treatment of the symptoms not of the health condition as such. Improvement will be noticeable but recurrent anxiety episodes are nevertheless possible. Doctors do prescribe specific medication but only for short-term administration and as a support for some form of therapy aims at eliminating the real causes of anxiety. There are serious health concerns related to anti-anxiety drugs because of the many side effects and the risk of developing a physical addiction. Therapy and lifestyle changes should be the more valuable alternatives to medication when it comes to treating anxiety.

Anxiety disorders have been traditionally treated with bezodiazepines. Other newer medication in this category include beta-blockers and antidepressants. Although they are new and less harmful for the body, such anti-anxiety drugs still fail to solve the real cause of anxiety, as they temporarily improve the condition. Experts all over the world share a common opinion that anti-anxiety drugs are just a temporary solution, as a support for a more complex treatment process. Therefore, the correct information of patients about the health-related options available is highly important in the first stage of the treatment.

Another name for anti-anxiety drugs is tranquilizers because of the impact they have at the level of the central nervous system. They soothe the nerves, relax the muscles, improve the concentration level on daily activities and increase sleep quality. The reaction to the medication becomes manifest pretty quickly: results will appear in no more than an hour, plus, the efficiency during a panic attack is unparalleled. However, there is a big downside to such anti-anxiety drugs: adverse reactions. First and foremost, they cause physical addiction. Even if you have the intention of stopping the treatment, the craving for the substances will make it very hard.

Then, sleepiness or lack of coordination are other adverse reactions related to the use of anti-anxiety drugs, benzodiazepines in particular. This means that driving and all sorts of daily activities will be impaired: some drugs even give a hangover feeling. The problem results from the slow metabolism of these anti-anxiety drugs that actually accumulate in the system, causing oversedation. What you’ll actually feel is like being drunk; therefore, maximum caution even with short term administration is the only way to best deal with this kind of medication.

Are you ever woken with panic symptoms when asleep? You wake up in shock like a fire alarm has gone off in your head. You feel dazed, confused and terrified like something awful has just happened. Chest heaving and heart racing, your face is drenched in sweat.

It wasn’t a nightmare you had it was a nocturnal panic attack. When waking from a bad dream a person normally has memories of the dream. Although bad dreams can wake a person and cause feelings of fear they are different from panic attacks.

The cause of nocturnal panic attacks can be due to a number or reasons but they are not caused by bad dreams. Panic attacks are usually linked to anxiety disorders such as agoraphobia and panic disorder. Panic attacks might come on without warning but usually during the day when the sufferer is awake.

Common panic symptoms include difficulty breathing, depersonalization and extreme feelings of fear. There are a number of possibilities how a person might develop an anxiety disorder. When feelings of anxiety and stress become habitual it can lead to anxiety disorders and other health problems.

Many people find life stressful and even unbearable at times. Being in a state of constant anxiety and stress weakens the mind and body. Worries and fears become magnified and the mind learns to be in a permanent state of negativity and anxiety. The way we behave and act is formed from past and present experiences.

When our nervous system becomes sensitized, feelings of stress and anxiety trigger easily. Fatigue often affects people with anxiety disorders. Irritableness, trembling, hot and cold sweats are also usual symptoms. Often they experience panic symptoms without even knowing.

Constant feelings of nervousness and tension make relaxation difficult. Their mood might change often. Also they might have thoughts of worry and apprehension like something bad is going to happen.

Living with panic symptoms can be a nightmare however there is much that can be done to improve quality of life. To help minimize panic attacks during sleep you should avoid drinking or eating anything that contains too much caffeine, alcohol and sugar.

Make time to relax properly before sleep. Stress and anxiety can build up from the day which makes it difficult to sleep. Slow breathing exercises can help you release physical and mental tension. Exercise is also a great way to help release stress and anxiety.

During sex and laughter, endorphins are released which makes us feel happy and good, so why not have more of it? It’s important to deal with panic symptoms as they can lead to other health problems.

Is there anything that I should do if I only think that a person is having a panic attack?

If you believe that somebody is having symptoms are suggestive of a panic attack, and first try to work out whether they know what is happening or not. Find out if this has happened to them before. If it has then you will need to talk them down from their excited state.

Try to introduce yourself to them by telling them your name.

If you are not sure whether the person is having a panic attack or a heart attack – then what do you do?

This is a tough one as the differences between a panic attack and more serious disorders are often minor. To be honest, it is not possible to be absolutely certain without the aid of certain diagnostic aids, such as ECGs or blood tests.

If you are uncertain, then follow the basic first aid principles, that is airway, breathing, circulation. Look around for medicalert necklaces or bracelets. Obviously, heed any advice given by the alert. Sometimes you need to call in the cavalry, just to stay safe.

OK – but if they are having a panic attack – then what do I do?

Clearly, one of you needs to be calm. Try to get one or two key ideas across, with the words that you use. Reassure the person that they will be fine and try to explain to them what is happening. They may come up with some good ideas. Don’t make them feel small or silly. Terror can feel very real and, in the correct circumstances will save their life.

Sadly, it is sometimes scary in inopportune times, which will lead to people feeling less resourceful and helped.

Sarah’s panic attacks started a few months ago after she was involved in a minor accident while driving her car. Now, she walks to work everyday even though it takes four times as long. Sarah gets anxious and apprehensive simply thinking about sitting in her car.

Everyday life is not what it used to be for Sarah. Often, Sarah will have an overwhelming feeling of fear when crossing a road. For three years Sarah was a cautious and safe driver but now she has lost all confidence to drive. She is afraid of a having another accident.

Panic attacks start occurring even when she is not driving. Sarah feels depressed and frustrated that she can’t do the same things she used to do. Thoughts of worry plague her even though she realizes how irrational her worries are. Her work and relationships become affected as a result.

Traumatic events can cause an anxiety disorder known as Post traumatic stress disorder. This can be a situational experience or an emotional one such as losing a loved one. A sufferer may find themselves reliving the traumatic event frequently and avoiding similar experiences.

A loved one of PTSD sufferer may see their partner’s personality change completely. It can be hard to know what to do for a sufferer. Sufferers may even avoid social interaction. There is a possibility that sufferers may develop a phobia of people more commonly recognized as social anxiety.

Insomnia affects a high proportion of people with anxiety disorders. They are likely to feel stressed and anxious and overly cautious. For Sarah, getting into a car or any vehicle for her is virtually impossible.

Panic attacks while driving can develop even if the driver has never experienced a traumatic event. There are a number of reasons why panic attacks might occur, including fear of having an accident. Our minds can create images and thoughts that create negative feelings such as fear and anxiety. When the mind becomes fixed on a particular fear it can make it seem a lot worse than it really is.

Loss of confidence can happen gradually and feelings of fear can develop. Mental associations are made all time both negative and positive shaping our beliefs and behaviors. Drivers might suffer anxiety and panic attacks for various reasons. These include;

- Driving at high speeds such as on the freeway.
- Driving at a busy time on the road.
- Having a close call with a driver cutting in front.
- Being at the receiving end of road rage.
- Driving for long periods.
- Driving at dusk.

Experiences like these can cause negative associations of fear that can develop. Using the right therapy anyone can change their negative thought patterns and behavior.

Gradually over the year Tom’s panic symptoms have worsened and is becoming a real problem. Being at work becomes more and more difficult to deal with. He starts to experience feelings of anxiety and apprehension everyday. Excessive thoughts of worry and dread plague him.

Leaving work he has to go to the supermarket to pick up some groceries. Walking up to the entrance he feels a hot flash coming from his chest. The thought of having another panic attack in public terrifies him. Trying to remain calm he tries to avoid attention. When he gets to the checkout he realizes that it’s busy and people are queuing. His throat tightens and he feels his heart jumps.

He recalls how the last panic attack felt and how uncontrollable the panic symptoms felt. At the line he feels that everyone is looking at him. Feelings of terror and fear of losing control hit him. He experiences intense feelings of terror and is afraid of losing control. Blood runs to his face and he starts to tremble. The anxiety and panic symptoms increase and become intolerable.

At this point all he wants to do is escape and get out of there. He has a feeling like he’s losing his mind. He manages to get served and he hurriedly leaves without turning back. Feeling like a bag of nerves he can’t stop replaying the panic attack over in his mind. The terrifying sensations are still with him as he rushes home.

If you suffer from an anxiety disorder this story might be familiar to you. Perhaps you’ve had a worse experience. Panic symptoms are often terrifying and difficult to cope with. Also, panic attacks are more severe than anxiety attacks because of additional related symptoms. Two common ones include depersonalization and derealization.

These symptoms can seem totally unreal and like no other experience. They can be extremely terrifying, confusing and disorientating for a sufferer. Even in sleep these symptoms can trigger causing alarm and discomfort. The unpredictability of panic attacks makes daily life hard to bear.

Worrying thoughts of when the next attack will strike may be constant. Places or certain situations are avoided if the sufferer anticipates that an attack is probable. People who suffer from panic attacks are always on edge with constant feelings of anxiety and stress in their life.

They are likely to fear confrontational or social situations. Lack of confidence, self-esteem and assertiveness are common characteristics. This kind of behavior only reinforces their powerless control over panic symptoms. Fortunately, anxiety disorders can be cured. Discover how thousands have cured their anxiety at the Panic Symptoms Help Site.

If you experience panic or anxiety more often than you think is common, I will give you a few tips that hopefully will help you to find the treatment you need.

Are you aware of your body? If not, you’ll need to be aware of it. The reason it is so important to be aware of your body’s reactions is it will help you to sort out if you are having an anxiety attack or not.

When you for whatever reason have to interact with people you don’t know, do you feel that your chest is tight? Are you experience breathing problems any time you find yourself in new and unknown surroundings?

If you answer ‘yes’ to any of these questions, you’ve got in touch with your body and it is telling you that something is not quite right. Experiencing some fear or anxiety from time to time is common for most of us. However, if your body again and again tells you that something is wrong, you probably need help and the first thing to do should be to approach your doctor and ask for medication or other treatments for regulating your nervous system.

Furthermore, you must ask yourself whether your nervous anxiety are keeping you from doing your daily activities or prevent you from feeling the joy of your life. The more you know about your condition, the more you will be able to find out if a life change will help you to reduce your stress level as well as the panic you feel. For example, are you doing something to get your finances in order?

Are you worried about your kids because they are not together with you each and every hour of the day? Are you always anticipating danger? Do you anticipate the worst case scenarios no matter which circumstances you are in?

When you seriously start to evaluate your behavior and feelings, you can stop your anxiety or panic attacks and start restoring your mental and physical health. You can also find a load of anxiety information at your local wellness center or yoga studio. Signing up for yoga classes will help you to get rid of stress by stretching your muscles and limbs as well as balance your mind and reduce tension in your body.

It will help you to get rid of some of the physical symptoms of anxiety, for example headaches, muscle aches, insomnia and fatigue, In most yoga classes you will also learn about meditation, which will help you to control your thoughts and feelings so that you can reduce or even get rid of the nervous anxiety that you feel. Meditation will also help to improve your concentration, and give you the ability to think and react differently when you are about to become overwhelmed with obligations or family challenges.

Anxiety Symptoms can be unpleasant but anxiety itself is not always a negative thing. In some cases it can benefit us. You’re asked to give a big presentation next week. You feel anxious and nervous. This might propel you to really go for it and do your best.

You make a lot of effort to organize and plan everything properly. Everything goes well on the day because of your hardwork. You see Anxiety symptoms can trigger motivation and inspire us to do well. The fear of failure is often a motivational factor. Especially when there’s a niggling voice at the back of your head telling you not to mess up.

That voice in the back of your head doesn’t always make you feel bad. It can actually be motivating in a positive way. It can give you a boost of confidence, because deep down you know you can do it. Positive feelings such as enthusiasm and excitement can be products of anxiety symptoms. Giving you that extra boost you need to accomplish something important.

Imagine you’re at a convenience store and you buy a scratch card. You might feel excited yet a little apprehensive. As you scratch the card you experience mixed emotions. People experience anxiety in different ways. Past experiences, genetic makeup and behavior determines how we react to situations.

There are those that live life to the fullest seeking the next big goal to accomplish. Some people are the opposite and don’t believe that they have the capacity to do more. These people may often feel overwhelmed and find that their activities and relationships become affected.

Millions of people around the globe suffer from an anxiety disorder. People who suffer from anxiety disorders find it difficult to shake fears that they themselves acknowledge as irrational. They may feel tense, jumpy and apprehensive. Sufferers expect the worse case scenario and are always worrying needlessly.

Physical Anxiety symptoms such as shortness of breath, a pounding heart and fatigue are common. Anxiety disorders are also linked with sleep problems such as insomnia and depressive disorders. Anxiety Disorder is the general term used for any one of the specific disorders there are, including Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Ag Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. Each one can be treated using therapies such as CBT and hypnosis.

During everyday experiences associations are made; a good memory of a certain place or a person that you love. When we are presented with familiar experiences we react accordingly. Through behavioral changing techniques and therapies we can adjust negative associations and learn positive behavior.

If you have been having panic attacks fairly often, it may be a good idea to talk to your doctor about medication for panic attacks that may work well for you. And, even if you don’t want to take prescription medications, there are several natural remedies that you can explore as well.

Antidepressants

Antidepressants are the main panic attack medication prescriptions that your doctor may discuss with you. These medications are also used for those that suffer from severe depression, so you may find that your mood will be boosted after you are taking the medicine for a while. However, it may take several weeks for the medicine to reduce your panic attacks, so you will have to incorporate other treatments in order to get relief quicker.

Also, you will have to take the medication constantly, and not just when you have a panic attack in order for the medicine to work.

Benzodiazepines

Benzodiazepines are another type of medication for panic attacks that you may want to consider if you don’t want to take antidepressants every day. These drugs help to reduce anxiety, and will start working very quickly, usually within 30 minutes. You should take these pills when you are starting to experience a panic disorder in order to relieve the symptoms and calm your heart rate down.

However, benzodiazepines can be very addictive, and when you are looking to get off the medication, the withdrawal symptoms can be very serious. So, it’s best to have a physical exam and make sure that you are in pretty good health before you start the medication, since it can be very taxing in the nervous system when you are ready to quit.

Alternative Treatments

Another alternative if you don’t want to take drugs every day, is natural medication for panic attacks. You can, for example make changes in your diet so that you will be getting right amounts of vitamin B12 and niacin. Although you don’t want to change your diet, you can go to your local health food or grocery store and purchase a supplement that might help you in a great way as well.

Include foods such as raw nuts, beans and lean cuts of chicken. This will in increase your intake of B vitamins. Fresh fruits and vegetables such as watermelon, oranges and broccoli are also good and rich in vitamin C, which will help in boosting your immune system. What these vitamins do is strengthen your nervous system, and will make it more easy for you to think clearly in situations that may cause panic anxiety or attacks.

You may also experience that making deliberate changes to your diet in order to improve your health, your confidence will increase and give you the ability to handle your stress better. No drugs come without side effects, fortunately most of minor significance, although some serious side effects may occur. If you want to avoid them, know that there are alternatives to medication for panic attacks.

Dealing with Social Anxiety can be tough but there are many things you can do to make you more comfortable in social situations. Taking control of the way you feel and act in social situations is not easy but it can be achieved. Small improvements can be made to gradually change the way you feel and react in situations.

First, make an effort to adjust your thinking towards a more positive one. Attempt to stop yourself when engaged in negative self-talk. On a daily basis, vividly imagine yourself without social anxiety and being confident. Gradually these positive behaviors will begin to emerge with enough practice.

The symptoms of social anxiety can be triggered merely by thinking of an embarrassing social experience. Your nervous system can’t define between what is real and your imagination. You can use this to your advantage. Every time you have to face your fear, vividly imagine everything going smoothly beforehand.

Every person has experienced an embarrassing moment that they’d rather forget. Don’t replay bad experiences in your head over and over again. Often we make past experiences exaggerated which in turn makes us avoid similar situations. Remember, nobody is perfect and we all make mistakes.

If something is bothering you and you can’t seem to let go, try using a distraction; go for a jog, go to the gym, read or bake a cake. You can also try and replay situations in a positive way and change the memory in your mind. Make it brighter, better and see yourself funny, confident and assertive.

Gradually change the way you act; be more assertive, make your voice louder and stand up straighter. Think of someone who is confident and charismatic and try to imitate them. Study what they do that makes them appear confident; their body language, speech and behavior. Make an effort to practice these behaviors and introduce them to your work environment.

Drinking coffee might help you perk up but it can be over stimulating and make your social anxiety worse. Unwind with a nice hot herbal drink like chamomile tea. Give yourself time to relax when you get home; watch comedies, take a bath or listen to some soothing music.

Following these simple steps can help you overcome social anxiety. Behavioral and emotional changes take time, so be persistent. Furthermore, advanced techniques can be used to quickly relieve symptoms. Get more answers at my blog on social anxiety.
