Buffer Yourself Against Depression

A non-invasive way to help with depression is learning how to meditate.

You can use meditation to help alleviate and assist in healing.

There are quite a few forms of meditative practices. The tangible ones could involve such things as singing a mantra, or the clapping of hands.

Urban planners are under contract to design into their plans, areas for parks or the design would not be allow and the project would not be completed. This is to ensure that there is a percentage of nature within our concrete jungle where our minds can take a break.

Using nature is an excellent resource of providing respite for the brain and prevents depression and keeps the mood in check. You’ve heard the term, “take time out to smell the flowers.”

There are quiet forms of meditation that are not quite as popular as they involve making the mind blank and sitting quietly for extended periods of time. This without question is one of the most difficult ways to meditate and as such, people often make excuses not to do this type of meditation.

Truly though, learning about all the meditative techniques in the world will not help you overcome depression, you must actually to embrace it and let it into your life. The only way to cure for depression is taking a technique and commence with the “doing” part.

It is suggested that newbies should stand clear of meditation techniques that require you to clear your mind. This type of meditation is the most difficult to focus on. It is more than likely that those who are new at meditation will fail with this type of meditation.

Newcomers to the world of meditation start with a meditation that incorporates the visualization of objects or colors where the person meditating has something to concentrate on at first.

If you are new to meditation, do not get frustrated when you can’t control your thoughts at first. When people first try to meditate they more often, than not, enjoy any immediate gratification.

Usually, people start off with a meditation plan of action and give up soon after and never try it again. With all the environmental stressors that we must endure on a daily basis, it’s not surprising that as frustration becomes even more intense it gets harder to do simple things let alone quickly meditate somewhere; especially if you are already stressed or depressed in the first place.

But bear in mind that most of us will never get it for the first few attempts. Don’t give up. Believe me, you are in good company even if you do as many do give up too soon.

Therefore, it is common practice to practice your meditation for 20 days in a row.

That way, it will become a habit. When you become familiar with the meditation, you will rid yourself of the potential “over thinking” that comes with it.

As they say, (and I know that I’ve taken some liberties here) “practice makes the heart grow stronger.” I wouldn’t be surprised if the same can be said for the mind also. So go on, start practicing.

It should go without saying that you may possibly not find a complete cure for depression but you will be directly facilitating your healing process.

I think meditation is an excellent resource for depression, and chanting can break up negative neural programing. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and have written the book, “Defeating Depression & Beating the Blues.”
